The New Year

Happy New Year and welcome back to another great term at Heathcote ! The end of last term saw a fantastic panto production of Cinderella by Mr. Kelly and Form 5 which even outshone the Danbury Players panto that we were treated to on the last day of term. Well done children - you all obviously worked very hard.

This term heralds two new events into the school calendar - a Science Fair and Parents Day which we are very excited about. Mr. Ormond will be organising the Science Fair and will be involving mainly children in the top school (more details will follow shortly) and will be held in the hall. Parents Day gives children the opportunity to bring their parents in to school to talk to their class about their job and what it entails. If we get a strong enough response for this event I will extend it past one day quite happily. Letters and forms will be sent out shortly and I would ask parents to respond as promptly as possible if they are interested.

March is always a busy month and sees the return of the annual School Play on the 17th & 19th March - having seen the high standard produced by Mr. Kelly in the Panto we are all keen to see what will happen with the Play this term! There are also the House matches (Drake, Nelson & Raleigh) on the 23rd March which traditionally include the staff and the Parents Association playing against each other and the children. The matches are always played with passion and determination by the children and are supported enthusiastically by the rest of their House. On the 24th March we have the Inter-House Maths Challenge organised by Mr. Ewan.

Exciting trips for the children include going to see Macbeth at the Cliffs Pavillion for Forms 5 & 6 and a visit to Lian's Restaurant for Form 2. Sports matches this term so far include Netball matches for Forms 3 & 4 against FKS on 13th January and Cross Country at Springfield on 14th January, ISA East Anglia Cross Country on 3rd February, a Football match against the Cathedral School at home on 26th February, an U10 Netball Rally at New Hall on 5th March, Cross Country Relays at Chelmer Park on 11th March and the Brentwood Tournament on 16th March.

I have taken over the School Blog and am updating it regularly with all the latest news, information and pictures of what the children have been up to - it really is an easy way for parents to receive current updates, all you need to do is go to 'Principal's Posts' and subscribe and the information is sent to you automatically.

Mrs Carn - Heathcote School Principal

I'm delighted to be continuing the family ethos of the school as Principal and am equally excited about leading the school into the future. Heathcote has always been a very important part of my life and I feel very fortunate to be able to accept this position with such a superb team to work with. I will also be drawing on the experience that my parents gained during their time as Principals and making full use of the technological skills that my husband and his company can offer the school (as with the website).

Heathcote School has played a major role in my life since I was three years old when I started Nursery here and my mother (Mrs. Greenland) started teaching in KG. The school buildings may have looked very different then to now but what hasn't changed is the ethos of the school, the excellent teaching and high academic standards or the feeling of warmth and security when you step through the gates.

Heathcote School is a special place for me, full of many wonderful family memories and I'm sure that both you and your children will make your own special memories here too.

Hogwarts Day

What an fantastic day we all had today! Both children and staff looked great in their costumes and the school was buzzing with excitement on Friday morning. To start the day off we naturally sang the Hogwarts School Song before proceeding to our Dramatic Spell Casting Competition which was won jointly by Nathan and Edward - well done boys! Our Best Written Spell Competition was won by Amber Bayford for a great spell that was also beautifully presented. See the Photos
Mrs Patten provided a great lunch which included Quidditch Pie, Broomstick Salad, Cockroach Clusters and Mrs. Weasley's Rock Cakes. See the photos
The afternoon included inter-house Quidditch matches which resulted in Griffindor coming 1st, Slytherin 2nd and Hufflepuff 3rd. The pupils also played against the staff but the staff won 6-2. See the Photos
Following that was Broomstick racing in year groups which was great fun with Alex being King of the Broomstick! See the Photos and the Winners
Lots of other activities went on in classes during the morning and we all felt that this was a really great way to celebrate National Book Week.

Heathcote Represented Beautifully!

Recently two of our children visited Felsted School for a Design and Technology Day. I was delighted to receive the following email from the Head commenting on the beautiful manners of our children and saying how well they represented the school too. Well done girls - we're all very proud of you!

I am sure that you will not be surprised that Sophie and Tayler were exceptionally good ambassadors for Heathcote today during our DT day, and they were a great credit to themselves. They exuded a great sense of fun, produced the best rocket (it flew further and for a longer time than anyone else's) and displayed tremendous manners. Well done!

Countdown to Hogwarts Day!

Yes - it's only 5 days to go until Heathcote turns into Hogwarts for the day!! New Houses have been allocated to the children -
Nelson will become Slytherin,
Raleigh will become Hufflepuff and
Drake will become Gryffindor.
Don't forget to make your house ties to wear to assembly that day children. If anybody needs some inspiration for ideas, costumes, potions etc then have a look at the 'Heathcote turns into Hogwarts' page on the website

The 3 R's - Reduce, Re-use, Recycle

Today we were visited by Mr. Steve Collins from Essex County Council's recyling department. He gave an assembly and talked to different year groups about the importance of recycling our waste, especially plastic objects.
He showed us a wide range of products that have been made from recycled materials, including fleeces made from carrier bags, aprons made from road signs and bags made from tin cans!

Both children and staff found it very interesting and we all feel even more determined to recycle now in school.

New Banner

We have added a new banner to the front of the school to compliment the flutter flags that were added at the beginning of term - maybe people will now start to realise that there is a school here and come and see how good we are!
